Cement Works

South Ferriby is an excellent site for a cement works – it has the natural materials needed to make cement and good communication links. A plant was first established on the site in1938 by Eastwoods Cement Company Ltd, which was taken over by Rugby Portland Cement in the 1960’s.

The familiar orange lorries of Rugby Cement are now being phased out following the group’s acquisition by Cemex in March 2005.

Cemex is a global company, based in Mexico, and employing 50,000 people in 50 countries. It is committed to working closely with the communities in which it operates and has an active programme of community support tailored to the needs of local people. www.cemex.com/cc/cc_cm.asp

Air Quality Monitoring
North Lincolnshire Council are monitoring particulate matter (dust) in South Ferriby for a twelve month period. This arose after complaints about dust in the Summer 2006. The Environmental team from North Lincs report on the matter at the Quarterly Cemex Liaison meetings. The first and second reports appear below - these will become more useful when they have data from an extended period of monitoring.
